At the same time that we received this good news, we were also told that there is a bit of a passport hold up. The passport office has informed the director of the children's home that she can only apply for 3 passports a week. And she has already put in for 3 this week. I believe she will try to get ours in later this week, but it's possible that it won't happen until next week. This kind of 'making up a rule all of a sudden' has been a consistent part of our adoption journey, and is not easy to stomach. Although a week may seem like a short amount of time, to us it feels HUGE. On April 11th, it will be 11 months since we received Asha's referral. 11 months is a long time to wait to hold your child. When our longing is so fierce, one week delay seems like an eternity. Please send prayer and energy for the director of the children's home to be able to apply for Asha's passport this week. We will not travel to India until we have the passport, and it is the last documentation that stands in between us and our sweet girl.
So, whoot whoot for the signed court order!! And arggghhh for the passport delay.... Julie, you said it best. This back and forth business is making me feel Looney Tunes.

Such awesome news to hear that the court order is signed!!! Ugh, the news of another passport rule is so hard to stomach! I can feel your "fierce longing" for Asha. Praying that the passport will be applied for soon and that it will be returned quicker than normal!
ReplyDeleteThe best comparison I can think of is learning to drive stick shift -- all the excitement of lurching forward, only stall out the next minute! Still, we are SO happy to hear that you've cleared the court hurdle!! And I certainly will pray for a speedy passport application.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you,
Nancy
Looney is a good word to describe ups and downs..looney on a roller coaster huh? LOL
ReplyDeleteYou will soon be in beautiful India for your sweet daughter.:)Gidget
SO happy that your are signed! Both of our journeys ended in substantial passport waits (8 weeks each) - and it just about pushed me over the edge each time. When you are this close, each day does seem like an eternity, and the longing grows every second. Prayers for quick passport!

Just got back from spring break vacation and am thrilled to see that you got the court order signed. So sorry the passport is being held up. I compared our adoption journey to the Amazing Race TV show. You rush as fast you can to get to the next place while you encounter many challenges along the way and then when you think you are ahead you get delayed or everybody catches up. This point in the process is so maddening and heartbreaking. I will pray the passport comes soon and you can book those tickets! I can't wait to see the first picture of Asha in your arms.
ReplyDeleteIncredible news Emily! The passport quota sounds maddening but you're almost with Asha.
ReplyDeleteWe're heading home from Delhi tonight with our little guy. Let me know if we can do anything to help!
