What happens next you might say? Well, the judge in Kolkata still needs to sign the adoption decree. The lawyer from the children's home will draw up this document, and then take it back to the judge for him to sign. Once he does, the director of the orphanage will apply for Asha's passport. Getting the passport could take a couple weeks. We are hoping, and hoping, that these next steps are completed quickly, allowing us to travel at the end of March!

I now pronounce you....LEGAL GUARDIANS!!
Hallelujah!! Last night we received an email telling us what we've known in our hearts all along, that Asha is legally our daughter and we are her forever family. It is pure, pure joy! I can't even explain the way that this feels! We are so close to holding our sweet girl. Over glasses of our favorite wine, we toasted to our new parenthood, and to each other. And then we ate thin mints and danced around a bit. We sat in Asha's room, and really envisioned her there. We drank in this incredible moment, when our family of two officially became a family of three. We are so incredibly grateful!

I have checked my sidebar more times than I care to admit today . . . hoping for a post from you!!!! Congratulations at last -- travel is SO close now, and your dear daughter will be in your arms. Celebrating with you, although I won't have a glass of wine, since we're all out of red -- chocolate will have to do. :o)

I need to give you another Texas, "Yippee-Yi-Yah"!! That's the best news, besides the post I cannot wait to see..."Gotcha Day"!! So excited girl! If Asha could understand all of this, I could see her jumping up and down in her crib, waking her crib mate and maybe pulling on Dawson's hair to make sure he knew of the good news! Wait, she's probably too sweet to do that. hehe
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!! Fantastic!!!! So glad to hear you made it!!!! And we might even be in India at the same time! Big congrats from us!!

This is just wonderful news. I can just picture the two of you sitting in her room (Pat and I did that same thing) imagining your sleepless nights and wonderful good mornings there.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you will soon be holding her is mind blowingly fantastic :)

I too, have been checking the sidebar on my blog waiting for this FANTASTIC news! Our family prayed Wednesday night for your family specifically, since you still hadn't heard anything (my heart was really heavy for you). How exciting to see answered prayer. I am so excited for your family. It is thrilling to know that you are so close to traveling to bring Asha home. It looks like a lot of you moms will be in India around the same time. That is amazing! Have fun making all those travel arrangements and packing those bags. You are going to INDIA!!!!!
