Life goes on...

Celebrating five amazing years at our favorite restaurant in Sonoma!
Anniversary picnic in the living room. This has become a yearly tradition, and one of our favorite parts of the celebration.
Shades of lilac for our Asha...We ended up going with the lilac on the right.
Kirk painting test colors for Asha's bedroom.

It has been a whirlwind of a two weeks! I wanted to be sure to post some nesting pictures for my fellow Dillon families :) No new updates yet, and it may be a while before we have news on the adoption front. Our paperwork is with CWC, and they recently requested a new form. So we spent Saturday morning notarizing and sending off what was requested. We are trying to focus on our daily lives, and just going on, because really, what else can we do? My sister Nikki gave me a wise piece of advice, she told me that every time I think of Asha, every time I long for her, I am sending her love. So that my longing is actually a positive, and it has a purpose. I felt something shift in me when she said this. It was like I realized that my job right now is just to love Asha from afar.

We have decided that Kirk will create Asha's birthday cake, and we will make this a family tradition. Every year, Asha will get to pick whatever kind of cake her little heart desires, and her daddy will make it for her. I can't wait to see what he comes up with for this year! We are planning to have a little party, put party hats on our Boston Terriers, and invite family over to open presents. I will be SURE to post pictures. And when Asha is older, we will show her how we celebrated her 1st birthday, and how she was always with us in spirit, even when she was 7,000 miles away.

  2. Thanks for passing on the great advice and the Birthday cake idea. We're also continuing on, loving from afar and waiting for word that Eli is cleared by the CWC and under official consideration for NOC. Fingers crossed for Asha and Eli!

  3. Emmy, I love the carpet picnic. What a sweet idea! So, will kirk be shipping out pieces of cake to family that's too far away to join in the party? Or, he'll just have it make it again when we come for Christmas! I love you Ems! I'm sending you and Asha love!

  4. I just found your blog quite by chance and was so thrilled for more then one reason....firstly because I am totally mesmerised by adoption stories and was so so excited about your adoption and will pray that all goes well. Secondly because I live in India, Kolkata to be precise and so I was even more excited when I read you are adopting from Kolkata. Which orphanage are you adopting from? I would be more than happy to help you in any way, if you want me to go and check on Asha or even send you some photographs and updates. I don't know how often you get photos or updates from the orphanage, but incase they aren't often enough just let me know if I could do something. I would be more more than happy to help and I know you must be dying to get news of your beautiful little girl. I have a daughter with DS, she is 2 and a son who is 8. I wish I was in the position to adopt, perhaps one day!

  5. We had a birthday party for Pala while we waited too! It helped heal some of the pain I was feeling from the delays. :)

    Praying for news soon.

    Blessings-
